Textures extracted from nature

Brief : Replication of the inspiration and its textures through different methods and tool of dying

Inspiration : I've always been enamoured with nature since i find its texture and colours to be so appealing. Bark is beautiful in its texture and colours, it creates the beautiful effects with its depths, layers, grains and hair like structure on top of it.

This project was carried out at the The Design Village, Noida, India in Semester 3.

Mood board : Creating and exploring varied textures on fabric involves using diverse methods and tools like dry flowers, bloom sticks, and barks. Techniques include eco-printing, where natural elements are steamed onto fabric, bark rubbing, using fabric paints and a brayer, and impressions with bloom sticks, transferring patterns using a mallet. Additional methods like leaf pounding and stenciling with natural objects further enhance texture. Experimenting with different materials and techniques results in unique, tactile designs on fabric.

Print development using wooden bark involves printing on cotton fabric naturally dyed with coffee and tea, treated by various methods. First, dye the cotton fabric with coffee and tea for a rich, earthy base. Then, select a piece of textured wooden bark. Apply fabric paint or dye to the bark and press it firmly onto the fabric, transferring the bark’s texture. Experiment with different bark pieces and printing techniques to achieve varied patterns and depths on the dyed fabric, creating unique, nature-inspired designs.
